Australian Standard AS/NZS 2195 for Portacots
The Australian Standard for Portacots is updated regularly with new inclusions and requirements. As part of the current Australian Standard for Folding Cots, the following are just some of the requirements to be met:
- There shall be no gap between flexible sides of cot and mattress, causing a suffocation hazard
- There shall be no footholds
- Sufficient depth of sides to prevent chilren falling out of the cot
- Two locking devices must be present, and the lock operating the folding mechanism shall be designed so that a child within the cot cannot open or activate the mechanism causing a full or partial collapse of the cot
- Tests for strength and durability of the locking device and folding mechanism
- Bite test and detachable parts test to ensure children cannot swallow small components of the cot
- Entrapment hazard test
